Haute Wheels: Barcelona's Gourmet Bus

There are restaurants inside airplanes and trains and there are food trucks galore, but one Spanish tour company is offering the world's first Gourmet Bus, a fine dining restaurant inside a bus, in Barcelona.

The Gourmet Bus whisks diners away on a culinary and city tour through the streets of Barcelona. Michelin-starred chef Carles Gaig of Restaurant Gaig prepares a tasting menu on-board the double-decker bus, which has a stainless steel glass-walled kitchen on the lower level and a glass-roofed dining room on the top level, affording panoramic views of the city.

The Gourmet Bus takes a scenic sightseeing tour around Barcelona past Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Sagrada Familia, Torre Agbar, Arc del Triomf, Port Olímpic, Plaza de Espanya, Montjuïc Mountain, and other sights before parking for dinner inside the bus. Each passenger gets an iPad to use to check out and listen to information about the sights in 11 languages.

The dinner includes cold dishes like tomato soup, slivers of cod, endive with romesco sauce, rock fish terrine, and a dish of prawns, basil, and strawberries, served with olive oil bread. There are also hot dishes on offer like courgette and foie gras ravioli with Parmesan cream, green asparagus with blue cheese, and Grandma Maria's cannelloni with truffle béchamel. The main course is guinea fowl à la Royale with potato and wild mushroom parmentier. The meal concludes with deconstructed Catalan crème brûlée.

The dinner is paired with Àngela Marquès Rigol Reserva Familia Brut Nature cava and Turó Negre Oliver Conti wine.

The three-hour tour and dinner departs at 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily. Tickets are €95 ($123).
