Haute Hotel Room Service Slideshow

The Surrey, New York City

After a $60 million, top-to-bottom makeover, the pedigreed Upper East Side hotel reopened in late 2009 with a sleek new look — out went the floral curtains, in came the William Kentridge video installation, along with the city's most posh room service from the Café Boulud kitchen below. Guests staying at one of the 190 "salons" and suites can order either off the specials menu, which includes a selection of chef de cuisine Gavin Kaysen's exquisite Café dishes like hamachi with edamame and pickled radishes, or from the more casual in-room dining menu. Literal translation: Short rib sliders in the comfort of a Duxiana bed.

Ritz-Carlton, Dallas

At the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, diners have seven distinct settings from a spectacular glass-walled dining pavilion to the chef's table off the kitchen for enjoying Dean Fearing's bold, flavorful cooking at Fearing's Restaurant. (They can get in on the action, too, and create their own guacamole blend in the Lobby Lounge every evening at 6 p.m.) But the most intimate setting is right upstairs in one of the hotel's 218 luxurious rooms and suites, where Fearing's entire menu is available for room service, including a very Texan take on surf-and-turf: chicken fried lobster served with a 5 oz. barbecue spice-rubbed filet of beef.

Eliot Hotel, Boston

This small, elegant Back Bay hotel is home to two of Ken Oringer's most celebrated spots: his flagship French restaurant Clio and his intimate sashimi bar Uni. Guests who can't decide between the two (or who don't want to leave the comfort of a lush suite decorated in toile and silk and with double French doors that separate the sleeping and sitting areas), can order from Oringer's room service menu, which features his take on New England classics like clam chowder as well as a smattering of dishes from his two eateries like Clio's crunchy sautéed halibut with citrus ginger broth and Uni's signature poke with seaweed and pickled mung beans.

SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills

L.A. real estate and nightlife guru Sam Nazarian tapped designer Philippe Starck and chef José Andrés for his debut into the hotel scene in 2008 with the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills. What the two have in common is an innovative, madcap sensibility, and it shows throughout the hotel, from the lit-up glass deer heads and swarm of mismatched chairs in the lobby to the fantastical dishes like foie gras lollipops and liquid nitrogen-dipped popcorn served at its restaurant, The Bazaar by José Andrés. While guests can't order Bazaar dishes up to their room, they can take their pick off of Andrés' in-room dining menu, which includes Spanish-inflected comfort food like chicken croquetas and flatbreads topped with jamón serrano and goat cheese.

The Little Nell, Aspen

Guests at the Little Nell are the most pampered in Aspen. Not only does the two-decade-old property have the honor of being the only hotel in town with ski-in, ski-out privileges, but the indulgent staff-to-guest ratio means guests can order any of Ryan Hardy's farm-to-table dishes at Montagna up to their room. Hardy also oversees the extensive in-room dining options, whether you want to have a romantic dinner for two (hamachi crudi, elk tenderloin) or throw a cocktail party for a dozen (tuna tartare with fresh black truffles, chicken liver pâté crostini).

The Elysian, Chicago

The most luxurious spot to have dinner in Chicago might just be in one of the super spacious rooms and suites — 890 square feet on average — at this Gold Coast newcomer, decked out with mattresses handmade in England and 460-thread count linens. Guests can order from the entire Balsan menu (tarte flambé out of the wood-fired oven, potato gnocchi with black trumpet mushrooms), choose select dishes from the two Michelin-starred RIA, or take their pick from the in-room dining menu, all overseen by chef Danny Grant. Dishes arrive in courses on Bernardaud china with Christofle flatware.

Lorien Hotel & Spa, Alexandria, Va.

Guests staying at one of the 107 Vicente Wolf-designed rooms and suites at the Lorien, the new Kimpton Hotel in Old Town Alexandria, have an eclectic array of room service choices, including the "dream service menu" with chenille socks, snore relief nose strips — even buckwheat pillows. Those looking for more traditional offerings can take their pick from chef Robert Wiedmaier's extensive in-room dining menu; a good portion of the dishes, like the Fell's Point filet mignon with frites and green peppercorn sauce, and grilled Poconos trout with brown butter vinaigrette, are from his adjacent Belgian-inspired restaurant BRABO.

Fairmont Turnberry Isle, Miami

The concierge at the sprawling, newly renovated Fairmont Turnberry Isle, one of Miami's most luxurious hotels, can arrange for catamaran sailing or snorkeling, and even match guests with a tennis partner of the same playing ability to spar on one of its new state-of-the-art clay Hydro-courts. Those looking for more languorous pleasures in the comfort of their room or suite — or on their private balcony or patio — can order in from a selection of Michael Mina's dishes from his Bourbon Steak menu, including his signature truffled mac and cheese and steaks from a wood-burning grill.

Hotel Healdsburg, Sonoma, Calif.

Some credit Healdsburg's transformation with the 2001 opening of this chic hotel on the western edge of the leafy town plaza. The 55 rooms and suites are outfitted with Tibetan rugs, pecan-wood floors, and most have a private balcony (either with a view of the redwood-fringed square, interior courtyard gardens, or Sonoma countryside). Co-owner Charlie Palmer offers a six-course tasting menu at Dry Creek Kitchen, though guests can opt to order in his locally-inspired la carte dishes (coriander-crusted Sonoma duck with pickled dried cherries, roasted Petaluma chicken with Applewood-smoked bacon) to enjoy in the comfort of their Frette bathrobes.

Skylofts at MGM Grand, Las Vegas

Skylofts guests enjoy over-the-top Vegas luxury even before they enter their Tony Chi-designed suites. They're chauffeured from the airport in a custom Maybach 62 and ascend to the top two floors of the MGM Grand by private elevator. Inside the one- to three-bedroom lofts, the uber-features seem boundless, from infinity-edge spa tubs to television mirrors. A private 24-hour butler can set up reservations at one of Joël Robuchon's two restaurants at the MGM Grand, or arrange for in-room dining from any of the resort's other restaurants, including Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak (pictured) for a choice of domestic or Australian Wagyu beef.
