Hackers Try To Name Mountain Dew 'Diabeetus'

What, the names "Diabeetus," "Fapple," and "Gushing Granny" don't scream delicious Mountain Dew? Today in epic fail news, hackers appear to have hijacked Mountain Dew's latest "name the drink" campaign with some highly inappropriate names, according to Mashable.

The "Dub the Dew" contest tried to use crowd-sourcing to name its latest Mountain Dew drink, a green-apple-infused drink, (note to companies: rarely does this work). But it looks like some Internet minds got to the list first. As of Monday morning, the list of names was, well, not OK. The leading names? "Diabeetus" outruled "Hitler did nothing wrong" — and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Reddit claims that the hacker group 4chan is behind the hijacks, but others say it might be an anonymous group. One Tumblr user also noted that the site appeared to be hijacked with even more offensive language, such as a marquee at the top of the page that said "Mtn Dew salutes the Israeli Mossad for demolishing 3 towers on 9/11!?" Took it too far, guys.

The site dubfordew.com has been taken down, and there's been no word from PepsiCo about whether the contest will continue. Slight problem: Mountain Dew is trying a similar contest for its first-ever malt-flavored soda, according to a press release. Let's hope the same group doesn't get a hold of that page.
