June means one thing — no, we are not talking about bathing suit season. It is National Dairy Month and few towns celebrate it so thoroughly as Little Chute, Wis. Since 1988, Little Chute has hosted the Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival, a three-day cheese celebration that includes everything from petting zoos to cheese tastings and from the Big Cheese Breakfast to the cheesecake contest. This year is no different; the schedule is packed. Friday evening kicks the weekend off with live jazz music, amusement rides (for just a buck!), and a cheese curd eating contest. Wake up early on Saturday to take part in the Big Cheese Breakfast, which will feature pancakes, porkies, cheese omelettes, cheesy scrambled eggs, coffee, and orange juice. You’ll need to fill up if you plan to participate in the one-mile, family-friendly Cheddar Chase Walk/Run.

Or save your competitive nature for the Cheesecake Contest — last year’s winner was the Sundae Surprise Cheesecake. If you’d rather just relax and celebrate locally made fromage, the weekend also holds wine tastings, scavenger hunts, and food and vendor booths throughout.

Loving cheese and eating it with abandon seems like perfect weekend plans to us! (Photo courtesy of Flickr/juanelos)
