One of my favorite new breweries of 2013, the underrated Grain Station Brew Works in McMinnville, Oregon, is celebrating its 1st anniversary with an Oktoberfest this Friday and Satruday, September 19 & 20. Many things have happened since Grain Station opened in what locals call “The Big ‘Ole Barn” — a beautifully renovated barn in McMinnville’s historic Granary District that serves as both Grain Station’s brewery and brewpub.

“It’s been a wild and amazing year,” says and Brewmaster and Co-Owner Mark Vickery, who has
brought his 25+ years of brewing experience to craft Grain Station’s Down to Earth Ales & Lagers.
“We’ve brewed about 20 different beers since we opened, and having a following that spans beyond
our local supporters is even more than I expected in our first year.”

“Mark really summed it up with ‘wild and amazing,’” notes Co-Owner Kelly McDonald. “Any
business’s maiden voyage is full of learning curves, and ours is no exception. But we’ve had a great
time, and I’m speechless at how much support we’ve had from the community.” “That’s really what it
comes down to,” says Vickery. “People in McMinnville and the valley are very down to earth, and so
are we. So it makes sense that our beer is made in that same spirit.”

Grain Station’s flagship beer is Bet the Farm IPA, which packs a whopping 80 IBU punch driven by
flavorful and aromatic Northwest hops. “My favorite is our Nut Red Ale,” McDonald commented. “It’s
a very earthy beer made with hazelnuts grown and roasted by local farmers.” “All our beers are made
with as many local ingredients as we can get our hands on,” adds Vickery. “And you can’t beat the
Yamhill Valley’s fresh, clean water.”

To celebrate its first anniversary, Grain Station will have “Oktoberfest Prost!” Friday & Saturday,
September 19th & 20th. The celebration will start on Friday with the release of two new beers:
Oktoberfest Lager—very traditional in style, malty and smooth— and Farmer’s Daughter Pale Ale, an
easy drinking beer with a pleasant floral flavor inspired by Brewmaster-for-a-Day and Grain Station
Beer Club Member, Pete Dehann, whose dairy farm in Hopewell provided the old barn wood you see
in Grain Station’s brewpub on its bar, tables and trim.

Friday night from 8-11 pm Grain Station welcomes musical guests from Chico, Zugh and the City of
Trees Brass Band. On Saturday, they will have an Oktoberfest Costume Contest, Beer Games, food
specials and fun fames for kids as well.
