One of golf's most prestigious tournaments, the Ryder Cup, is about to take place in Chicago; but in two years (the tournament's every two years), it'll be returning to an old location: the Gleneagles hotel in Scotland. As the golf world gets ready for another match-up, the Gleaneagles' hotel bar manager, Paul Danskin, has mixed up a whiskey cocktial to celebrate the Ryder Cup — and prepare for its return to Scotland. Golf fan or not, it's an easy sip for fall.
INGREDIENTS
- 8 1/2 ounces water
- 1 1/2 ounces Johnnie Walker Platinum
- 1/2 ounce ginger wine
- 3/4 ounce cloudy apple juice
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 3-4 cloves
- Zest of 1 lemon and 1 lime
- 2-3 apple slices
DIRECTIONS
At the heart of this drink is an ice cube with a spicy twist. First, add 250 ml of water to a pan and bring to a boil. Then add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and zest. Allow this mixture to simmer for ½ an hour, then cool and add to ice cube trays. Once the ice cubes are frozen, place 1 in an Old Fashioned glass.
To the glass, add the whiskey and ginger wine, then top up with apple juice. Garnish with apple slices, and enjoy!
