The saying "opposites attract" may work for you and your honeybuns, but the same cannot always be said when it comes to food and drink. I'm not being a foodist here, but somethings just don't mix very well. Think lima bean ice cream or spaghetti and milk. How about fried chicken and champagne? Well, that wasn't on the top of my list either, until recently. Don't believe me? Fine, Birds and Bubbles just opened on Forsythe St, so check it out yourself.

Sarah Simmons is one of the hottest chiefs in New York, recently voted one of New York's 50 best chefs by Food and Wine Magazine. This is her new home. Hailing from North Carolina, Sarah earned her stripes as the founder of the infamous dinner club, City Grit, and is now showing off her talent at this really innovative eatery.

Birds and Bubbles exudes comfort, as you relax on plush couch-like booths in the long brick room. For the few surprise summer nights this fall, you might also enjoy your meal in the large enclosed back patio.

Once seated extremely comfortably at your table, you will be faced with the challenge of selecting from one of the many delicious menu options, such as the Splitty Split, which at $55 includes a half buttermilk fried chicken and quarter bottle of champagne (currently Pol Roger, though the Champagne will change occasionally); or for only a few bucks more, the scrumptulecent Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner, consisting of a whole buttermilk fried chicken, three sides and a bread basket brimming with biscuits, jalapeno cornbread and benne seed challah rolls. If aren't partial to poultry, you probably shouldn't come to a chicken restaurant BUT... Sarah isn't as judgy as me and provides options like the buttermilk braised pork shank or vegetable curry, for those allergic to birds.

Of course, this culinary experience wouldn't be complete without enjoying one (or all) of the 28 champagnes in a wide price range, all the way up to $250 (for those who want to feel like a boss). For the others who still think chicken and champagne is just plain weird, there is a wide selection of down home beverages including Southern sweet tea, cocktails and beer.

So fly over to the Birds and Bubbles sanctuary. You might just find that opposites are delicious... as well as attractive.
