'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Author Releasing Own Line Of Wine

If you've walked into a Barnes & Noble or any other bookstore in the last two years, you have probably seen the wildly popular Fifty Shades of Grey romance novels displayed all over the store. While we can't necessarily say we've caught onto the erotica craze, we can say we're digging the idea of a wine inspired by the novels. Wine and romance just seem to go together, don't they?

On Sept. 23, Fifty Shades of Grey author, E. L. James released a new collection of wines inspired by her best-selling books. Featuring the tagline "You Are Mine," Fifty Shades of Grey Red Satin and White Silk wines offer Fifty Shades superfans the opportunity to indulge in some of the same wines that their favorite characters sip in the novels.

A recent press released stated that the Fifty Shades of Grey Red Satin is a blend of petite sirah and syrah, with flavors of black cherry, cocoa powder, creamy caramel and vanilla, leather, and clove spice that has been aged in a combination of new and neutral French oak barrels. The White Silk wine is a delicate yet rich blend of gewürztraminer and sauvignon blanc. White Silk's flavors include floral aromatics of lychee and honey, tempered by flavors of crisp grapefruit, mineral and lush pear, and a faint hint of butterscotch that has been fermented cool, and aged in stainless steel tanks.

In the release James stated, "Wine plays an important role in Fifty Shades of Grey, adding to the sensuality that pervades a number of scenes. I've always had a penchant for good wine, so combining two of my passions to blend Red Satin and White Silk was a natural extension of the series. I hope my readers curl up with a glass as they enjoy the romance between Anastasia and Christian."

The wines are reportedly personally blended by author E. L. James along with winemakers in California's premium North Coast appellation. We're definitely excited to give these interesting blends a try. At only $17.99 a bottle we'll probably pick one up when they hit liquor stores in October but maybe we'll skip the romance novel and curl up with a cookbook instead...
