A Visit To Mad. Sq. Eats Slideshow

This new addition to the market sells heaping bowls of pasta topped with their signature tomato sauce, which is slow-cooked with told of shredded braised meat, meatballs, and sausage. While it's not exactly warm-weather food, this sauce is delicious, and can also be purchased online.

They also offer chicken parm sandwiches: breaded and fried chicken breast topped with melted mozzarella and a chunky tomato sauce.

For vegetarians, they offer a bruschetta topped with roasted vegetable ratatouille and arugula.

Mrs. Dorsey’s Kitchen

These guys have nailed the grilled cheese sandwich. Instead of butter, they use a garlic- and herb-infused extra-virgin olive oil, which adds a lot of depth of flavor, and the sandwiches aren't overfilled. This one is called Pop's Original, and comes with smoked Gouda, honey mustard, and tomatoes.

Red Hook Lobster Pound

A beloved Red Hook institution, their truck can be found patrolling the streets as well. Their lobster rolls include a ton of Maine lobster, and are served cold with mayo (Maine-style), or hot with butter (Connecticut-style, pictured).

Hong Kong Street Cart

A mainstay at the city's food events, this cart is selling comforting classics based on Hong Kong street food. The chile salted shrimp is lightly battered and fried and tossed with green scallions, fried garlic bits, sesame seeds, and hot pepper flakes, and packs a spicy punch.

Their filling cold peanut noodle dish tops chilled spinach noodles with a spicy peanut sauce, and is crazily addictive.

Mmm… Enfes

This booth continues the street food theme, with a Turkish twist. This new addition specializes in handmade breads and phyllo, stuffed with a variety of meat, vegetables, and cheese. This rolled-up phyllo filled with a spinach mixture and heated in a sandwich press is called a gozleme, and makes for a very satisfying lunch.
