Deadly Spider Found in Supermarket Bananas

This past weekend, a customer at a Lidl supermarket in Rotenburg, Germany, found an extremely deadly spider in a package of bananas. According to The Local, the customer was inspecting a package of bananas when a large spider ran out and scurried away. It was obviously not the type of harmless, everyday spider normally found in Germany, so the customer panicked and store staff quickly called the police. Eventually an expert showed up to catch it, at which point the creature was revealed to be an extremely venomous Brazilian wandering spider, a variety whose venom can be fatal to humans. Only one such spider was discovered in the display, but the entire delivery of bananas was removed by store staff.

This Brewery Stuffed a Dead Squirrel With Beer and Is Selling It for $20,000

Scottish brewing company BrewDog has released what just may be the weirdest (and most expensive) craft beer of all time. The End of History is a ludicrously boozy beer (55-percent proof) that takes seven months to brew. It’s distilled by freezing the beer down to negative-40 degrees Celsius to produce a very strong, powerful beer, according to Vice. The entire concoction is poured into a bottle and then sealed inside a taxidermized (yes, that means dead and stuffed) squirrel and sold for $20,000. The price may sound steep, but it will also get you an equity stake in the brewery. The brewers will only be making 10 bottles of the stuff, so strike while the squirrel is hot.

Cubs Fan Builds Giant Gingerbread Replica of Wrigley Field

One Chicago Cubs fan is celebrating his team’s historic World Series win in an epically sweet way. Chef Gerald Madero and his team at the Forest Hills Country Club in Rockford, Illinois, have built a replica of  Wrigley Field made from 400 pounds of gingerbread and edible decorations. The project took more than 70 hours to complete — about three times as long as the running time of the World Series itself. The entire thing — except the Lego players — is edible. In addition to the gingerbread walls, the seats are made out of crackers, the scoreboard is edible paper, the windows are gelatin, and every single piece is a perfectly scaled replica of the real Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Americanna Launches Its New Edible: CannaPuffs

Americanna, a self-styled socially responsible producer of edible gummies in the legal marijuana industry, has recently launched its latest edible: CannaPuffs. The new product is a hybrid between a marshmallow and a gummy. The CannaPuff is “brand new to the cannabis marketplace and it’s also novel in the world of traditional confections,” Dan Anglin, founder and CEO of Americanna, told Confectionery News. The edibles come in watermelon, strawberry, sour apple, and grape flavors, each available in sweet or sour. “Americanna anticipates expanding aggressively in states where cannabis-infused edible confections are legal,” Douglas Brown, the company’s spokesman, told Confectionery News. “This is a priority for the company in 2017.”

Graham Elliot Is Now a Judge on ‘Top Chef’

Celebrity chef Graham Elliot is joining the cast of culinary characters as a judge this season on Bravo’s Top Chef. Elliot — who was previously a judge on MasterChef and MasterChef Junior — will be behind the judges’ table with Gail Simmons, Tom Colicchio, and Padma Lakshmi. The new season premieres 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, Dec. 1. “I’ve come back full circle in a way,” Elliot, who had previously competed on Top Chef Masterstold Parade. “I can empathize with the contestants, because I know what it’s like to turn around and think, I have 10 minutes left, and it’s really 40 seconds.”
