Australia's Yowie Group Brings Angry Birds Collectible Chocolates To The US

The Yowie Group, an Australian confectionary company that specializes in chocolate candies with collectible prizes inside, has signed a three-year licensing deal with Rovio Entertainment to bring Angry Birds chocolates to the United States.

The launch of the chocolates will coincide with the release of a May 2016 Angry Birds movie from Sony, based on the popular smartphone game that has been downloaded more than three billion times, according to Rovio.

According to a press release from Yowie, the Angry Birds chocolates with be "similar in size and shape to the Yowie product line, but with distinctive Angry Bird character foils and collectables."

Yowie will be produced in the United States by Whetstone Chocolate, based in Florida. Distribution has already been secured from Walmart.

"Angry Birds is one of the most recognizable entertainment franchises in the world and we are pleased Rovio has chosen to partner with Yowie for the U.S. market," Yowie's executive chairman, Wayne Loxton, said in a statement. "We look forward to a successful partnership outcome"
