Amalfi Brings Neapolitan Charm To Downtown Atlanta

As an avid pizza explorer, it's important to keep a list of places I have been to, so the brand-new pizza joint in downtown Atlanta was obviously a must-visit.

Walking into Amalfi Pizza immediately transports guests far, far away from the neighborhood. The restaurant's foyer feels like a scene straight out of Italy. A mural of the Italian countryside is painted across one wall, and the brick passageway has lights strung above. This picturesque entry leads up to the restaurant on the second floor, where tables are spaced around two enormous wood-burning brick ovens.

First up were the stuffed peppadew peppers, which were bite-sized, crammed with ricotta, and laced with a balsamic glaze. Next came the polpette (meatballs), which were covered in cheese and a delicious tomato sauce.

However, the real pièce de résistance was the pizza. The Carnavale pizza had the best crust I'd ever eaten. Stuffed with melt-in-your mouth ricotta cheese, this pizza was in a unique star shape (which will make for a fantastic Insta!).

The sauce was delicious as well. But that crust... Sometimes I am tempted to eat just the center of the pizza and discard the crust, but not this time! The ricotta inside was just too tasty to turn down.

Try either the tiramisu or cannoli (if you haven't had enough ricotta!) for an authentic Italian dessert. You won't regret it or any part of this meal.

Local's Tip: For another new (and delicious) pizza experience in Atlanta, check out Brezza Cucina at Ponce City Market. Their pizza is perfect for either brunch or dinner. Swing by the upstairs Mercury bar before or after your evening meal for a cocktail.
