19 Menu Items You Won’t Find at Any Subway in America

When you drop by your local Subway for lunch, you pretty much know what you're going to get. Sure, you might come across a new sauce or a special sandwich from time to time, but for the most part the Subway menu remains blessedly unchanged, and you know that your order will taste exactly the same as it did last time. But Subway is a huge chain, with more than 44,000 restaurants in 110 countries, and there are some menu items that you can only find outside of the United States.

Aloo Patty

For vegetarians looking for a satisfying sandwich in India, there's this: a potato patty seasoned with Indian herbs and spices, with a choice of vegetables. We'll take this in America!

Apple Pie

Only at Subways in Costa Rica can you top off your sub with an apple pie.

Barbecue Rib

In Germany, you'll find Subway's answer to McDonald's McRib, a pork-based patty marinated in barbecue sauce.

Corn and Peas

At Subways in India, you can order a sandwich filled with corn, peas, and carrots in a mayonnaise-based sauce.

Chicken Cordon Bleu

In Argentina, chicken strips topped with ham and cheese is a popular menu item.

Chicken Seekh

In Indian Subways, you'll find coarsely-ground grilled chicken seasoned with mint and green chile as a protein option.

Chicken Tikka

At Subways in the UK, you can order the Indian chicken tikka, boneless chicken breast chunks that have been marinated in a tikka spice blend and grilled.

Halloumi

Subway guests in Saudi Arabia can order a sandwich made with halloumi, a cheese that originated in Cyprus but is now popular across Greece, Turkey, and much of Arabia. Halloumi has a very high melting point, so it can brown up nicely on a grill without oozing.

Ham and Mascarpone

Only available in Japan, this sub is filled with cold ham and mascarpone cheese.

Oven Potatoes

In Japan you can order oven-roasted potatoes as a side dish, in flavors including regular, barbecue, and cheese.

Paneer Tikka

There's a great cheese option at Subways in India: paneer tikka, the cheese you find served in sauces in Indian restaurants, cooked in a traditional tandoor oven.

Peri-Peri Chicken

Peri-peri (also called piri-piri) is a spicy sauce and marinade of Portuguese origin, traditionally served with chicken, that has become popular in Africa. At Subways in South Africa, you'll find chicken strips flavored with peri-peri sauce and topped with spicy peppers.

Sandwich Wraps

You can turn any sandwich into a wrap (wrapped up in a flour tortilla) in Slovakia, Australia, and New Zealand

Schnitzel and Slaw

A limited time offer that's only available in Australia, this includes a schnitzel that's been topped with "golden herbs" and cabbage slaw

Shrimp and Broccoli

Shrimp and broccoli is a classic Chinese-American dish, but in Japan they're loaded up a sandwich loaf with them.

Skagenröra

At Subway restaurants in Sweden, diners can order skagenröra, literally "mayonnaise," a shrimp and crab salad tossed with mayo, lemon, herbs, and spices.

Smoked Chicken and Cream Cheese

At Brazilian Subways, you can order a smoked chicken and cream cheese sandwich, essentially chicken salad made with cream cheese instead of mayo. It's apparently one of the most popular menu items there.

Subway Taco

A Japanese limited time offer, the Subway Taco is a flatbread filled with ground beef and spicy salsa, along with your choice of cheese and vegetables.

Veg Shammi

A vegetarian option at Indian Subways is the Veg Shammi, a sandwich made with lentil patties flavored with garlic and onion.
