Dunkin' Donuts To Roll Out Turkey Sausage Breakfast Sandwiches Nationwide

Dunkin' Donuts line of turkey sausage breakfast sandwiches, which has been tested out in select Eastern markets since January, will be rolled out nationally starting today, The Daily Meal can confirm. The company will be making their official announcement later today.

"We know that our customers love sausage, as does the rest of America," Stan Frankenthaler, executive chef and vice president of product innovation at Dunkin' Brands, told us. "We're committed to evolving our menu to meet the needs of our customers. Health and wellness is becoming a more significant factor, and we want to offer the right menu items as they're making those choices."

In 2008, Dunkin' Donuts launched their DDSMART line of healthier options, and this new sandwich will be a part of that menu. "It has to be great, and it has to be craveable, and with the turkey sausage we've done that," he added. "There's lots of spices in this, because it would be a crime to have bland sausage. And it's all less than 400 calories."

The sandwich partners the turkey sausage with an egg or egg white and a slice of American cheese, on an English muffin. It was launched in markets along the East Coast and in New England earlier this year after about a year in development. The sandwich was one of the brand's best-selling limited-time releases ever, and rolling it out nationwide was a bit of a no-brainer.

"The reason this outcome happened is because we hit on all our targets," Frankenthaler added. "There's no trade-down in experience, it's easy to make the swap to a healthier option, the calorie count is low, and most of all, it's delicious."
