Dunkin' Donuts Has Mass-Produced The Cronut

Guys, we've been doing it wrong. Instead of waking up at 5:30 a.m. to wait in line for Dominique Ansel's super hot invention the Cronut, we really should've been figuring out how to mass-produce it on our own. Because it only took Dunkin' Donuts two months to do just that.

Quartz reports that Dunkin' Donuts has introduced a mock cronut, launching the "New York Pie Donut" in South Korea this past weekend. The brand also launched the "Donut Croissant" in Manila a couple of weeks ago.

Of course, South Korean Dunkin' Donuts are now facing long lines of people waiting to try this donut-croissant hybrid that has been sweeping the nation. It'll just be another place in Asia to get mock cronuts (other bakeries in Manila, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore have since created cronut copycats). But of course, Dunkin' Donuts might be the first to create their own version of the pastry and mass produce it.

Nevertheless, Dunkin' Donuts does have a high-brow reputation in South Korea to keep up, and they're limiting customers to two New York Pie Donuts per person. They're currently being sold in high-end neighborhoods like Gangnam, Jamsil, and Myungdong in Seoul, but the brand has no plans to bring their faux-cronuts stateside. Looks like we're stuck with waiting in line for the originals.
