All-American Super Bowl Punch

When it comes down to it, the Super Bowl is all about performance; from who will win and who will lose to, of course, the quality of the commercials and halftime show.

And let's not forget the pressure of making friends and family a tailgating feast. While we hope you have your menu of pizza, wings, and chips set, we thought you might still be a bit anxious about the drinks.

So, to help you serve something more delicious than six-packs of beer, we enlisted the aid of Mike Ryan, talented bartender at the acclaimed establishment Sable Kitchen & Bar in football-crazy Chicago. (When pressed, however, Ryan admits he prefers the Eagles to the Bears.) But we didn't just want any tasty recipe; we wanted a cocktail that would electrify a room like a kickoff-return touchdown. Talk about stress...

All-star that he is, Ryan came through. His aptly named Super Sunday Punch Bowl of Freedom is a real game-changer. It's a flavorful mix of all-American ingredients, including bourbon, apple brandy, ruby red grapefruit juice, honey, sweet tea, and baking spices. And the best part is that it can be assembled ahead of time and satisfies a thirsty crowd. (And if you're truly feeling inspired, Ryan says you can even serve it in a pair of plastic-wrap-lined football helmets.)

Once it's made, all you have to do is ladle out a few glasses and then sit back and relax. Enjoy the game!
