Doing Things My Way

I love to cook. However, I don't like to follow the rules. So, occasionally, things can go awry. Sometimes, though, I come across an idea that makes breaking the rules feel oh-so-worthwhile. My most recent departure had to do with chocolate chip cookies. I always get the sizes screwed up, no matter what sort of spoon/scooper I use. I try all sorts of different things, and all the cookies seem to come out wonky no matter what. I finally got sick of looking up "tips" online, and I decided to try something new. I baked my cookies in a muffin tin! I know, I know, it sounds almost crazy, right? But the truth is, I didn't make them into muffins. They were all just perfectly cut-out cookies!

I greased each muffin well liberally, and then proceeded to fill each section only about a third of the way. This allowed for the cookies to grow, but they didn't end up looking like mini-muffins. I adjusted the baking time for a smaller-sized cookie, and then I watched them puff up a bit before gaining their perfect brown texture. After letting them cool down, I popped all of them out of their sections. All of the cookies were still cruncy on the outside (not burned at all) and had their breakaway center.

I doubt I'm the first one to think to try this, but I was pretty dang proud of myself. I'll never eat wonky homemade cookies again!
