Restaurant Tests 'Dine By Weight' In Dubai

Dubai is a city well-known for its over-the-top, all-you-can-eat buffets, but one restaurant is resisting the trend to out-do other buffets by instituting a pay-by-weight strategy, according to The New York Daily News.

The plan, developed by Lootah Hotel Management, a hotel management company, uses this pay-by-weight model at its restaurant Gramo. Diners can choose from either the buffet service where they pay only for what they eat or the à la carte service. Gramo is utilizing this model so that the restaurant can avoid unfinished plates and prevent perfectly good food from going to waste.
