Deal Of The Week: Half-Off Trips To Africa

Going on safari is one of those holidays that requires a lot of planning and, most likely, saving. It's the trip of a lifetime — looking out for the "Big Five," taking in expansive skies and wide horizons, and eating unique local cuisines. But the price tags associated with safaris usually reflect that, and flight prices alone can be a deterrent for many. But Intrepid Travel is having a 50 percent off East and Southern Africa sale that includes 12 of their popular itineraries in those regions, which range from 24 days to just more than a week.

These trips are incredible opportunities to see so many parts of Africa, regardless of which trip you choose. The 24-day Kenya to Victoria Falls, for example, takes you through small villages in Tanzania, on safari in the Ngorongoro Crater and in the Serengeti, to a spice plantation in Zanzibar, to see the fisherman on Lake Malawi, and finally to the captivating Victoria Falls. And right now, that trip is starting from $942 per person on select dates (down from $1,885). Did we mention it includes all breakfasts, and most lunches and dinners? Put plainly, they suggest that each person brings around $240 for the few things that aren't included.

But perhaps the smaller commitment of an eight-day tour sounds more appealing. Take their Serengeti Trail, which includes trips to the Musoma market, camping beside Lake Victoria, and a safari (in 4x4s) through the Ngorongoro Crater where you'll have the chance to see elephants, rhinos, lions, and more. What's more, travelers get to participate in some of the cooking while camping, though they'll be guided by a local chef who has pulled together the freshest, seasonal ingredients like fresh fruits to serve after lunch, and vegetables to include in African stews. This trip usually costs a cool $1,035, but the select sale dates are going for just $517.

With prices like these, there's no excuse not to go.
