Crafty Kitchen Projects: Upcycled Jars

More than 28 billion glass bottles and jars clog up landfills each year. It isn't hard to imagine; take a look in your pantry and you'll most likely discover at least five. Another peek into your refrigerator and you could have 24 of them alone from your favorite case of beer.

The thing is, though, glass jars can be recycled an infinite amount of times, so tossing them in the glass bin is never a bad option. However, with a little DIY knowledge, you can put some of those jars to great use in your kitchen beyond holding food. Repurpose salsa jars for pen holders, wine bottles for vases, and even mason jars for dried snacks. All it takes is a little time and a little creativity.

In these four easy steps you could have a unique piece of décor.

General Supplies:
1 bottle of Mod Podge
1 glass bottle
Twine or yarn (enough to cover your bottle)
Small paint brush
Scissors

1. With the small paint brush, paint a thin coat of Mod Podge about a 1/4-inch thick from the base up.
2. Wrap your twine or yarn around the coated area, taking care to wrap tightly.
3. Once you complete the section, give the twine a little squeeze to secure in place.
4. Repeat the steps until the twine is totally covering the bottle.

The best part about this craft is it is easy and safe for kids to participate in! Just be sure to be with them when they're using the scissors!
