Le Colonial Hosts Month-Long German Riesling Wine Paired Dinner Series

Le Colonial in San Francisco has announced that for the month of July they will offer a nightly German Riesling wine paired dinner. In addition to the restaurant's regular a la carte offerings, Le Colonial will be serving a $75.00 four-course prix fixe meal with each course paired with a glass of German Riesling. All prices exclude tax and gratuity and reservations are required. Unchanged is the restaurant's signature regional Vietnamese cuisine with French influences. This special menu includes a first course of Canh Chua Tom, traditional tamarind soup with shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts, tomatoes and garlic oil paired with a C.H. Berres, Ürzig, Mosel 2011 followed by Chef's selection of five Vietnamese specialties with a Dr. Pauly Bergweiler Bernkasteler, Badstube, Beerenauslese 2006. The entrée will be a choice of Ca Ri Tom, coconut curry prawns with eggplant, shiitake mushroom, mango, potato, yellow onion and basil served with side of jasmine rice; Sot Diep Chien Bo, pan-seared day boat scallops with Riesling coconut lobster sauce edamame, roasted organic cherry tomato and mini crepes; or Ga Roti Xao Xa, lemongrass chicken two ways: roasted breast and sautéed thigh meat with spring onions, and rainbow chard in a coconut cream, all paired with a C.H. Berres, Ürziger Würzgarten, Kabinett 1996. For dessert, diners can enjoy Creme Caramel with a Dr. Heyden, Riesling, Prestige Brut. Every day of the year, guests can enjoy Le Colonial's international wine list comprised of French and domestic vintages, plus wines from Chile, Argentina, New Zealand and elsewhere. The full bar's cocktail menu showcases classic, contemporary and original libations. The atmosphere at Le Colonial evokes the elegance of Vietnam in the 1920's. From the mosaic-like tile flooring, the vaulted pressed-tin ceiling, the shuttered windows, the plush rattan furniture, and the tropical plants, all accented by the glow of candlelight, Le Colonial feels as if it was transported here from 75 years ago and 10,000 miles away. Vintage black and white photographs of life at the turn of the century adorn the walls, while ceiling fans gently stir the air. In addition to the intimate main dining area, the upstairs bar and lounge at Le Colonial provides a relaxed salon ambiance with its faded oriental rugs, decorative bamboo birdcages, low wood tables and comfortable couches. The lounge is appropriate for tea, cocktails, appetizers or casual dining. Le Colonial is located at 20 Cosmo Place between Sutter and Post and Jones and Taylor. The restaurant is open nightly for dinner, Sunday through Wednesday from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday, 5:30 to 11:00 p.m. Valet parking is available.
