The Barrel Room SF Hosts Scotch Seminar & Tasting With Mahesh Patel

The Barrel Room San Francisco will host a Friday, June 5 Scotch Seminar & Tasting with Mahesh Patel from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with tastings and food pairings priced at $50.00. The intimate 20-seat event will afford guests the opportunity to learn about the subtleties and nuances of Scotch from one of the world's leading purveyors. Mr. Patel is a connoisseur and enthusiast who frequently attends exclusive whisky events and gatherings both domestically and abroad. He has been a collector of fine and rare whiskies for more than 20 years, including the purchase of The Dalmore Trinitas, the world's most expensive whisky. Proprietors/sommeliers Sarah Trubnick and Carolyn Johnson, along with additional partners, recently opened The Barrel Room San Francisco on Sansome Street. At The Barrel Room, there is an emphasis on educational tasting flights and a wine-friendly food menus by Chefs Manuel Hewitt that vary on a quarterly basis with regional focuses that will include, but not be limited to, Latin America (the debut focus), France, Germany, Austria, Italy and the United States. A hallmark of The Barrel Room is their commitment to seeking out hard-to-find wines from around the world. The wine list features an extensive selection of educational flights arranged by region, varietal or flavor profile, all appropriate for pairing with the current regional food focus. The wines from these flights are available by the glass (more than 50) and the extensive bottle list affords guests a choice of more than 200 international wines organized by characteristics such as light and crisp, aromatic, bold, plush, spicy or earthy. The cocktail menu, crafted by Bar Manager Nick Palm (previously of Georges), features 10 to 12 libations linked to the current regional food focus. Highlights of the engaging 60-seat Barrel Room dining room's "rustic modern" décor include a large skylight; a redwood-topped bar; old growth redwood accents, panels and facings; a rich gray color scheme; bench seating; handmade glass globe pendant lights; and a handmade glass globe chandelier mounted in an atrium over the main dining area. The restaurant is open for lunch (beginning May 11) Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 pm., and for dinner Monday through Saturday from 5:00 to 10:30 pm.
