Providence Food Trucks Slideshow

Chez Pascal’s Hewtin’s Dogs

If Homer Simpson had a Hewtin's dog, he'd pack up the family and move them from Springfield to Providence. Word! When you are a food truck born out of restaurant serving fine French cuisine is there anything else to say beyond placing your order?

Mijos Tacos

Jacques Cousteau would probably love their fantastic fish tacos. Chef Peter Gobin spent six years living, cooking and eating in Los Angeles and it shows in his LA style taqueria.

Rocket Street Food

Their name is truth in advertising. This is fine street food. Featuring Niman Ranch Angus Beef hamburgers like the Space Cowboy (which has caramelized onions, Dave's Coffee BBQ sauce and jalapeno relish), and the best seltzer on the planet, Yacht Club Soda.

Clam Jammers

Born out of a bricks and mortar home in the heart of the port of Galilee in Narragansett, Rhode Island, Clam Jammers is the ocean on four wheels  — delivery fresh seafood dishes to those less fortunate souls who don't live on the water!

Like No Udder

Providence is a city of many firsts and you can count this one among them; Like No Udder is the world's first all vegan soft serve ice cream and treats van. Nuff said. Bam!

Flour Girls Baking Company

When it comes to Southeastern New England, the boundaries between states can become blurred. To Flour Girls Baking Company (based in the small town of Fairhaven, MA), Providence is the big city, offering up a larger client base than their hometown. Their food truck (aka, the Sweet Truck) travels from Cape Cod to Providence.

Tallulah’s Tacos

Out of Newport, Rhode Island Tallulah's Tacos offerings include carne asada made with beef from Blackbird Farm in Smithfield, roasted chicken made with chicken from Pat's Pastured in Jamestown and a black bean vegetarian offering. For a drink they offer freshly made horchata, a spiced rice milk all at a great deal.

Radish

Talk about a collaborative story!  Radish is a food truck built to promote healthy eating and creativity. As their website states, "it is the brainchild of a few passionate students at Johnson & Wales, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and Brown University looking for an outlets to put exciting and progressive ideas to good use." When was the last time a food truck served you the following sandwich — tomato and mozzarella on basil paste with a hint of fresh lemon juice? Uh, that's right — never!

Championship Melt

Championship Melt uses local New England cheeses, fresh baked hometown bread, Daiya "cheese," gluten-free bread, vegan mock meats, real meats, and fresh fruits and veggies. I also love the fact that they show up each week at the Providence Kickball League games.

Joedega

Joedega is serving up the highest quality coffee, espresso drinks, smoothies and teas. Get your buzz on with this unusual and sophisticated food truck that proves that when it comes to food trucks it's not always about the "food."

PVD Pops

Val, the pudding pop gal, is all the reason you need to stop by her cart. What can I say? I like her sense a humor and her sweet treats. Then again, what child (or adult) doesn't like a good pudding pop made with Rhody Fresh Milk, otherwise know as the best local dairy products around? Brown University alum, Val has created quite a following with her seasonal flavored pudding pops (my favorites are the, Rhode Island Coffee Milk, Pineapple Basil, and Mint Chocolate Chip). Lactose got you down? No worries, Val also created three flavors for vegans and the lactose-intolerant crowd including Coconut Orange Creamsicle, Coco Key Lime, and Mango Tamarind.

Mama Kim's

Korean food is one of my favorites and getting it right on a food truck isn't easy. My two favorite dishes they serve are beef galbi (boneless short ribs in a house marinade with ground Korean pear-sesame oil) and pork kimchi (pork belly and loin in house marinade, grilled with their fresh kimchi). While Mama Kim's is all over the city, the students, faculty and administration at Brown University are especially lucky as you can often find this truck right around campus.

Poco Loco

You've never had a PB&J like this before. Poco's PB&J (served as either a taco or burrito) stands for pork, black beans, and jalapenos with cheese and their sweet chili BBQ sauce. Perfect food when you are out partying or if you are just really hungry...or both!

Noble Knots

One of the newer trucks on the scene this truck has made a name for itself in quick fashion with dishes like their "Knot Dog," which is wrapped bacon (what else?) and the tastiest tater tots dear ol' mom never made you! Seriously good food!

Johnny’s Chimi Truck

I am told the origins of the chimi truck began in the Dominican Republic, and that's a good thing for Providence as its Latino population (which is significant) hails from about 20 nations in Central and South America. Approximately half of this Latino population comes from the Dominican Republic. So you know Providence must know its chimi trucks! This video of local (culinary) luminary, chef Nick Rabar, explains why Johnny's is so well regarded in Latino and non-Latino communities alike — it's good food made quick and with love!

Portu-Galo

Several of my Portuguese friends turned me on to this food truck and I owe them big time! Southern New England is blessed to have a large Portuguese community and with it comes their food, too! I have one word for you:bifana! Never heard of it? It's the best pork filet sandwich I've had, ever!

Lotus Pepper

Thơm ngon is the Vietnamese word for delicious, and their food lives up to that standard in my book! Spring rolls made with jumbo shrimp are a must-have at this truck. Their Vietnamese grilled chicken sandwich only costs (be still, my heart) $4.50, and a fresh lime soda will wash it all down! I'll say it again — thơm ngon!

La Strada Wood Fired Pizza

I was introduced to La Strada when they catered a friend's wedding at the renowned arts organization, The Steel Yard: one of the most creative settings on this planet. It was pure bliss! Let's just say it also forever changed the way I look at wedding food. Every wedding should have their wood fired pizza on the menu!
