Starbucks is beloved for its big, secure, single-stall bathrooms almost as much as for its coffee, but a small child recently made a discovery that could put an end to relaxed Starbucks bathroom usage when he found a hidden camera recording everything that went on in one.
According to KTLA, a hidden camera phone was propped up under the sink in a Starbucks bathroom in Lancaster, California. It was hidden behind some rolls of toilet paper, and when it was found last Thursday, it was turned on and recording and pointed directly at the toilet. Worst of all, the discovery was made by a 5-year-old.
“My son used the restroom first and I used the restroom after him,” the boy’s mother said. “I noticed he was staring at the sink a little bit perplexed. I asked him what was wrong and he said, ‘Mommy, why is there a phone under there?'”
Police say they do not know how long the camera had been turned on or who was receiving the footage it was recording, but they are investigating security footage from the area.
This is far from an isolated incident. Not long ago, a female comedian discovered a two-way mirror in the ladies’ bathroom at a Berwyn bar, and the owner insisted there was nothing wrong with that. Just last month a restaurant employee was arrested for secretly videotaping female customers in the bathroom.
