It looks like Chanel is going to be getting a beauty revamp in 2015. The French fashion house, which has been without a global creative makeup and color designer since Peter Philips departed in February 2013, has finally appointed a new director. Italian makeup artist Lucia Pica has just been tapped for the position and will start her new duties in January 2015, almost two years after Phillips left and subsequently moved to Dior. While Pica may not have any major brand positions on her resume, she is far from new to the game and already has a few collaborations with Chanel under her belt including the Rouge Allure, Fall 2014 and most recently, the Holiday campaign.
The 38-year old may be known for her classic bold brow and red lip looks, but she also works often with i-D magazine and backstage with brands like Peter Pilotto using bright pops of color and unexpected sparkle. She breaks beauty rules consistently and will undoubtedly break up the monotony that’s left Chanel’s beauty line stagnant for far too long. As Pica is taking up her new position in January and Fall 2015 shows start in February, it looks like we won’t have to wait to see what she can bring to the table.
