The "Maverick Food Porn Poet," And Other Anthony Bourdain Nicknames

While browsing chef José Andrés' Twitter feed, we couldn't help but notice his creative epithet for Anthony Bourdain. Andrés addressed the fellow chef as a "Maverick food porn poet" as he welcomed Bourdain to Spain via Twitter, and this unusual nickname inspired us to do a little digging of our own to see what other crazy nicknames have been used to label the celebrity chef.

In November of 2011, the reality star was nicknamed "Bad Boy Chef" on an episode of The Simpsons. He played and poked fun at himself on the show by saying, "I'm food bad boy Tony Bourdain. There's nowhere I won't go and nothing I won't eat as long as I'm paid in emeralds and my hotel room has a bidet that shoots warm Champagne."

A month later, Men's Journal commended the star for being more than just a "TV chef," and described him as a television "hedonist," in the article "A Drunken Afternoon with Anthony Bourdain."

"Describing Bourdain as a TV chef, then, is inaccurate; he's a television hedonist, luxuriating in the indulgences of an ironstomached (and -livered) traveler, willing to make sure any insect- or offal-based local delicacy will not go unswallowed." Writer Mark Binelli explained in his article. Binelli also describes Bourdain as a "drunken bachelor uncle."

In October of 2012, Ted Allen nicknamed Bourdain "the original culinary gangster" during a roast involving other comedians and chefs. This year, he was labeled an "American adventurer chef" in the Times Style blog, an "intrepid" chef and "a man who transcends cool" in the Orlando Sentinel and "TV's most adventurous chef" in the March 2013 edition of Cosmo.

Although these epithets and descriptors are all pretty creative, we think José Andrés' takes the cake.
