Boston's Legal Crossing Continues to be a Local Favorite for Fresh Seafood

The Legal Sea Foods name is a well known commodity here in Boston. Every New Englander knows dining at this seafood mecca guarantees some of the freshest fish in town. Last spring the group introduced Legal Crossing, a new dining concept in Downtown Crossing. This revamped district is one of the hottest new scenes for restaurants, theaters and shopping.

While you can get the same fresh seafood at Legal Crossing as you can at the brand's other locations, what makes this restaurant so special is the cool, sleek vibe. As soon as you enter, the first thing you will notice is the beautiful dining room filled with sumptuous black leather booths, black painted brick walls and enormous hanging lights that line the perimeter of the restaurant. There are floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Washington Street.

Our server quickly greeted us and presented a basket of addicting gruyère puffs and sourdough rolls. She suggested we sample the lobster pizetta, a unique combination of fresh lobster, wild mushrooms, crisp bacon and a farm fresh egg. She also mentioned the best way to enjoy it was by dipping the slices into the oozing yolk. Fresh seafood is the name of the game here, so don’t miss a sampling of the jumbo shrimp served with a side of spicy horseradish cocktail sauce for dipping. We also enjoyed their signature crispy bang bang cauliflower appetizer topped with a spicy Kung Pao sauce.

For the main course, the seared sea scallops from the Simply LX section come complemented by a side of Brussels sprouts. While Legal Sea Foods is best known for its simply prepared seafood  dishes, they also offer one of the best kept steaks around. The  prime 49-day aged sirloin is cooked to a juicy perfection, topped with smoky onion rings and rich bone marrow butter. You’d also be remiss to leave without sampling their decadent buttery lobster mashed  potatoes, which come in a portion large enough for the entire table.

Some recent new additions include tarragon poached lobster, garam masala duck, a charcuterie board and LX stuffies made with pancetta and red pepper coulis. For dessert, guests can order adult profiteroles made with bourbon ice cream, croissant bread pudding, pistachio cake, “sin free” chocolate mousse, sticky toffee cake and chocolate peanut butter pie.
