I grew up on German food because my step mom was German. I recently have reverted back to cooking the food I grew up on. This is one of my favorite, simple.

This is from Kolb's Restaurant in New Orleans, LA. It opened in 1899 and I think it closed in the 1990's. It's main specialty was German food. Kolb's history: http://www.geocities.com/twincousin2334/NO_Kolbs.html

This is a nice German style Lentil soup that I came up with over the years. I love real German food and this is my version of this classic. My wife is from Germany and she loves it.

Plan ahead if you want to have Sauerbraten. It takes 2-3 days to properly marinate. I love it with creamed potatoes or spaetzle, a German egg noodle. Greeks love German food and vice versa. I got this recipe from my Tante Marianna.

My grandma is know by everyone as Nan, and she makes awesome German food. This Schnitzel is one of my personal favorites. Makes 6-10 Schnitzels @ 2 per person. Good with 'German style Potato Salad' or 'Spatzle' and some sort of veggie like 'Brown Sugar and Dill Carrots'

If you love German food, especially hot mustard, bacon, onion and pretzels, you will adore these burgers! It's a labour of love to make both the buns and burgers from scratch, but it is truly worth it: the crushed pretzels are a unique twist on the standard breadcrmbs and the blend of meats is divine!

I like this recipe because my family loves it! It is their favorite meal that I cook on occasion. My Husband is German and Kraut burgers are his favorite German food. I have worked on this recipe for many years to make this recipe better and easier. Tip one is to make sure you have several cookie sheets and a clean table. Tip number two don't buy cheap meat. Buy the good quality meat. Tip number three turn on some music.

*Schweinefleisch und Bier-Eintopf* in German, this recipe is from *Modern German Food* by Roz Denny. Roz said "In several parts of Germany, breadcrumbs are used to thicken soups & stews, a brilliant idea that adds a delicious rich & slightly nutty flavour, esp when beer is used instead of stock. This recipe uses shoulder of pork, but works equally well w/beef or veal & is a wonderful warming casserole." *Enjoy* ! (15 min was allowed for ingredient prep)
