Your children may be sad that it’s time to go back to school, but one thing that they can look forward to is having a delicious breakfast every morning before they head out the door. Tired of making scrambled eggs and bacon? Want to try something a little more daring? Well, you’re in luck. We invited the Culinary Content Network to participate in the “Back-to-School Breakfast” recipe contest sponsored by Johnsonville as this week’s SWAT (Sharing With A Theme).
Johnsonville sausage is a Wisconsin-based national brand of Italian sausage, brats, smoked cooked links, meatballs, and fresh breakfast sausage. Each member of the Culinary Content Network who submitted a recipe this week was asked to use breakfast sausage in his or her recipe, and the results were mouthwatering. Take the breakfast bowl filled with nutrient-rich quinoa and sausage, or try one contributor’s cheesy muffins with chives and, yes, sausage. We have a wide array of breakfast options that are sure to ease you and your kids into the school year. Here are this week’s highlights.
Sausage, Potato, Spinach, and Cheddar Frittata
Frittatas are so easy and versatile — you can really use anything you have on hand. Angela LeMoine of LeMoine Family Kitchen started this recipe on the stovetop, browning the potatoes and sausage in a combination of butter and olive oil with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then, you simply stir in a dozen eggs, baby spinach, and Cheddar. Pop right into the oven and bake until golden, bubbly, and cooked through. It’s just two steps up from scrambled eggs.
Cheesy Sausage and Chive Muffins
Muffins are usually studded with dried fruit or chocolate chips. Not this one — Shashi Charles of Runnin Srilankan blog made a breakfast sausage muffin that is cheesy, light, and filled with chives and Johnsonville sausage.
Mini Sausage Egg Waffle Sandwich
Alli Smith of Analli Event blog made all our breakfast dreams come true. Waffles, sausage, and eggs? It’s everything you desire from breakfast wrapped up into a mini sandwich. This is a tasty and quick recipe that can be made in less than 20 minutes, which is why Alli is the winner of this week’s SWAT. In the midst of the morning chaos, a delicious meal can make everything better. The best part is that after the mini waffle sandwiches are assembled, they are drenched in syrup — yum!
