Best Drink Toasts And Cheers'

Sponsored By Santa Margherita Exclusively presented by TERLATO WINES

The holiday season calls for a lot of raising of glasses. Toasts to family and friends. Toasts to health. Toasts to prosperity, success, and happiness, of course.

By the time New Year's Eve comes around, it's all you can do to think of something new and different to say when called upon to say cheers.

To offer a little inspiration beyond the standard, "Happy New Year," or saying "Cheers" in every language, we've collected some favorite drink-related toasts.

To the beer-drinkers

"A long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and a true one.
A cold beer and another one."

"Champagne costs too much,
Whiskey's too rough,
Vodka puts big mouths in gear.
This little refrain
Should help to explain
Why it's better to order a beer!"

"Our lager which art in barrels, hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk, at home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head, and forgive us our spillages,
as we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not into incarceration, but deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is beer, the bitter and the lager, for ever and ever, barmen."

To friends

"My friends are the best friends,
Loyal, willing and able,
Now let's get to drinking!
All glasses off the table!"

"Here's Champagne to your real friends and real pain to your sham friends."

"Remember friends... The glass is neither half empty, nor half full... It just needs to be topped off!"

To the lushes

"I used to know a clever toast,
But now I cannot think it,
So fill your glass to anything,
And damn your souls, I'll drink it!"

"I love to drink martinis.
Two at the very most.
Three I'm under the table.
Four I'm under the host!"

"When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!"

"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. Cheers!"

"Let us have wine and women, mirth and laughter,
Sermons and soda-water the day after."

- Lord Byron

To the New Year

"Stir the eggnog, lift the toddy,
Happy New Year, everybody."
- Phyllis McGinley
