Hands down, the best BBQ restaurant is Cherry Street BBQ in Monroeville Alabama. THis place is crazy! ONly open on the weekends. Have been 3 times and a line begins to form an hour or more before this place opens!

Re: The Best BBQ Restaurants

Having lived in Louisiana, Missouri, South and North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee, I have to say KC has some great barbecue. That being said, everyone talks about The Rendezvous in Memphis, however the best kept secret (as the Evan Williams ad on ESPN says) is truly The Commissary in Germantown, TN; just on the edge of Memphis. It is THE BEST in my humble, barbecue-loving opinion. Their used to be a little roadside take-out only shack in Alexandria, Louisiana called "Jimmy Norman's BBQ" that was fabulous. The owner and operator, Jimmy Norman, was the coolest older black gentleman that loved what he did. He was kind enough to share his recipe with me for his homemade BBQ sauce because he knew I loved it so much. I promised him I would not divulge it to a soul. His sauce was the "Boss". God Bless you Jimmy. Approx. 100 miles north of Atlanta in the northeast mountains of Rabun Gap, Georgia, there is a little roadside wooden BBQ shack that is fantastic; "Tomlinson's BBQ". They're only open on weekends for mainly take-out, with a few picnic tables nearby if you can't wait to get home. Their beef brisket and their pork ribs are delicious! They were featured on the Food Network in the past couple of years (I'm not sure exactly when). They could teach many of the bigger restaurants a lesson in barbecuing. I mean slow-cooking meat over indirect heat with smoke. Don't overlook some of the small, off the beaten path BBQ joints. They're often the best. MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! :)

I used to eat at Jimmy Norman's because it was just a block away from where I worked in Alexandria, La. First of all, Jimmy was a white guy. Second of all, he was always threatening to close the place and kill flies if you left the door open. He also complained loudly if you handed him a twenty dollar bill to pay for your BBQ. "This ain't a bank!" But most of all, it was the most delicious BBQ you ever ate. Moist and tender, flavorful. The sides were all delicious too.
If Jimmy gave you his sauce recipe, it must have been after hours. His place was packed all the time until he'd sell out and he was not the "chatty" type.
In summary, I've tried for 40 years to duplicate his flavorful BBQ and have never done it. You were the absolute best Jimmy. RIP.

Been to Kreuz and Rudy's both. Best Texas BBQ is Schoepf's in Belton, Texas. Hands down.

tdm-35-icon.png

Obviously the author didn't try out Thomas Pit in Madison, Alabama.

Rudy's BBQ in Leon Springs, TX and City Market in Luling are the best!

What a crock! Unless you've eaten at every joint between San Francisco and Savannah, how can you POSSIBLE proclaim the "Best in America??" This page is too cluttered to even FIND your review - albeit, it really wasn't worth finding.

tdm-35-icon.png

Arthur Bryant's is the best!

Having a list of best bbq spots and leaving not mentioning Lexington BBO, is just plain silly. Lexington is the best around,

tdm-35-icon.png

Nothing here. Who designs this junk?

tdm-35-icon.png

Didn't see Memphis, i.e. Redenzvous. This site certainly needs work!!

tdm-35-icon.png

Seriously? This sight needs some work.
