Foursquare Tips

  • Bar Pilar is one part restaurant with a seasonal menu that veers from classic fried chicken to the more intriguing pan-fried calves brains and one part watering hole. [Eater 38 Member]
  • Go to Bar Pilar and order the cheese plate and a magic hat.
  • Try the Tequila Sunset Slushie. Served in a 350ml Patron bottle and only at the upstairs cocktail lounge.
  • Go for the lard-fried buttermilk chicken. It's soaked overnight in a brine with rosemary, parsley, bay leaf, lemons and apples before it's coated with seasoned flour and a dip in pork fat.
  • Fun fact: named after Ernest Hemingway's boat.
  • Ask the bartender, Barnaby, for "Break a Greg" if you are looking for an awesome and spicy cocktail
  • Get the Jamon Serrano Eggs Benedict with home fries. Best brunch ever.
  • This is the neighborhood bar of our dreams, with marvelous cocktails, a lived-in patina, genial bartenders, and Justin Bittners ever-changing seasonal small plates.
  • Don't try to order anything more than a G&T, the bartenders don't care after dinner's over.
  • Yummy Bloody Marys
  • Order the Ruffled Shirt cocktail. Its delicious.
  • The menu changes regularly but there are always a lot of vegetarian options. You should always get the roasted potatoes with the malt aoli.
  • Avoid the wines unless you know them. Bartender was no help!
  • Have a Dark and Stormy and try a couple of the seasonal vegetable plates.

  • Get the happy hour fancy Mac 'n Cheese. You won't regret it. Ours was shrimp, tomatoes and spices, but it varies. So delicious.
  • Deviled eggs are not worth it. Disappointed.
  • No-frills breakfast food. The Hangover Cure, an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink of a dish--if you want a stick-to-your-ribs meal--always pleases.
  • The small plates menu changes often, but includes favorites likea chicken liver pate and a stinging nettle quiche. To drink, try the Ruffled Shirt or the boozy Cuba Libre float. [Eater 38 Member]
  • The scallops here are excellent.
