Anthony Bourdain Makes Oscar Picks

We can now add film critic to Anthony Bourdain's resume; the outspoken author and host of No Reservations weighed in on his Oscar picks on The New York Times Carpetbagger blog, and his comments got pretty harsh.

Woody Allen's popular crowd-pleaser Midnight in Paris did not impress. Bourdain said, "I loathed Midnight in Paris and I beyond loathed Extremely Loud and Incredibly Twee, I mean, Incredibly Close."

Coming from a film savvy family, Bourdain gave props to The Tree of Life and director Terrence Malick. He also gave some acting love to Gary Oldman and Viola Davis. As for the cooking in The Help, Bourdain doesn't believe it was professional grade. "It didn't make that much of an impression on me, honestly. I was caught up in the story," he said.

What else did we learn about the adventurer's movie habits? When Bourdain hits the theaters, he's a fan of popcorn with "nasty grease and non-buttery butter." Read Bourdian's partial list of Oscar picks here.
