Did Anne Hathaway Shed Too Much Weight?

How far would you go for an opportunity? As far as to practically starve?

For actor Anne Hathaway, the answer is yes. After scoring the potentially Oscar-worthy role of Fantine in the classic Les Misérables, the loveable starlet vowed to shed 16 pounds and chop off her gorgeous brown tresses for the role.

So what's the story? Well, her character Fantine is a prostitute suffering from a terminal case of tuberculosis who has to sell her hair to provide for her daughter, Cosette, in 19th-century France.

It's not unusual for actors to shed weight for roles, like Christian Bale, who lost an enormous amount of weight on multiple occasions for various roles, as well as others like Edward Norton, Emily Blunt, Natalie Portman, and the late Heath Ledger. All may have taken their past roles a little too seriously, but won praise for it from critics and especially during awards season.

Let it be known that while rapid weight loss may be common in the movie world, it's best not to try it at home.
