Instead of limiting themselves to Neapolitan- or New York-style pizzas, brothers Jason and Hugh Connerty decided that they were more interested in combining the characteristics they liked from each style to create a truly unique pizza experience at Ammazza in the Old Fourth Ward. That began with three-day-risen dough cooked in their 900-degree-F wood-fired oven, but also meant not limiting themselves or their menu to ingredients from a single region in Italy — Ammazza makes their own fresh mozzarella daily and uses meats cured and prepared by The Spotted Trotter in Kirkwood (and yes, count sprinkles for the kid’s pie among non-Italian region derived ingredients). And whether you order the Margherita, the sausage-laden Ammazzare, or one of the other 14 pizzas on the menu, the result has been one of the South’s most successful pizza spots, and a true Atlanta favorite. — Arthur Bovino, 8/27/2014

Named one of the The Daily Meal's 101 Best Pizzas in America in 2014.

  • The Terra was amazing: wild mushrooms, mozzarella, goat cheese, basil and truffle oil. Delicious.
  • Order the meatballs!!!
  • Start with the Polpette & Insalata di Basil. Then the Carne and Bolognese pizzas followed by the Torta Caprese and the Italian donuts. Try a few of the wines on tap and you'll be spoiled for life!
  • This place needs to hire servers
  • love the space here! rustic and polished at the same time. Antico style pizza. definitely coming back here on a wknd night.... bar and DJ booth! have great hopes for these guys!
  • The insalata di basil, a lightly dressed tangle of field greens with artichokes, olives, and goat cheese, is a genuine upgrade from most pizza parlor attempts at salad.
  • Kids pizza has edible glitter on it. Big enough for kids to share.
  • The Carne Pizza is EVERYTHING!!!!!
  • The Margherita Pizza and the flourless chocolate cake are total winners!
  • There's more than one place for top-tier Neapolitan-style pizza in this town. Favorite pies include the Inferno with sopressata and peppers and the Ammazzare with Italian sausage and Vidalia onions.
  • Bright acidity from a side of Ammazza's tomato sauce, served hot, serves to balance the gooey richness.
  • Sit and order at the bar. Inferno pizza!
  • The caprese is delicious. Go straight to the back bar. You can order the full menu from there.
  • Pizza will make you really happy! Sit at the bar for the experience.
  • Get the Terra and ask Alex about her favorite wine, she'll never steer you wrong
  • White is rihto
  • The Inferno isn't as intimidating as it sounds. Super delish.
  • Definitely get here early. St. Bernardus, insalata di basil, and Terra = the winningest of combos.
  • Not open for lunch
  • Ammazza has arguably the same quality pizza as Antico but in a more comfortable setting. Full bar too so you don't have to worry about BYO. Bolognese Pizza is the move
