American Airlines Debuts New International Menu

Passengers seated in first class and business class on American Airlines' international flights to Europe, Asia, and Latin America may have noticed the airline has redone its mealtime service, revamping the menu, china, and more.

Upon boarding, first class customers receive a welcome aboard card and an amenity kit that doubles as a tablet case stocked with Dermalogica skincare products, closed-toe slippers, an additional pillow, and a blood-orange mimosa. Business class passengers receive new slippers and an amenity kit with Akhassa cosmetics.

While in flight, first and business class customers can choose from new dishes like seared scallops or a bacon wrapped breast of chicken appetizers, soup, tender beef filet with seasonal vegetables and customized pasta (a first for an airline) main courses served on updated, more modern china, along with new flatware and upgraded linens. Business class passengers can also treat themselves to a special sundae served from the dessert cart. Toppings include fruit compote, chocolate fudge, caramel, nuts, and whipped cream. Other dessert options include Grand Marnier-soaked fresh fruit or a fruit and cheese plate paired with a cordial.

The first class dinner experience is modeled after that of a fine dining restaurant, with beverages and meals hand-delivered upon request. First class customers' tray tables are set with a textured placemat, adorned with a napkin ring and accent water glass. The dinner meal service begins with an amuse-bouche and ends with an expanded sundae menu that now includes a specialty sundae. Passengers can also partake in a wine sampling, which is accompanied by a tasting card.

The first class breakfast option is similar to hotel breakfast room service, where passengers complete a breakfast card that includes more bread options, spa water, and a pre-landing sweet treat.
