Look for Alameda cans first in Plaid Pantry stores, and soon Fred Meyer and QFC throughout Oregon and Washington. Cans will be sent to Utah in the fall, and there are talks to send beer to Montana and New Mexico. Alameda is already exporting beer around the world, Keytra said. “Some of the first can orders came from the Netherlands, Taiwan, and Malaysia. It’s safe to say that cans will be easy to get your hands on. We have all of our distributors listed on our website.”

“Support your Local Cans,” an Alameda Canned Beer Fest will take place on March 7 as a benefit for Susan G Komen Oregon Foundation for breast cancer research. This cans-only festival helps debut Alameda’s new packaging to the public, as well as hosting other Northwest breweries that can their products. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be given to the Komen Oregon foundation. Alameda hopes this will become an annual event.

Alameda Brewing is also considered a potential international collaborator by Craftport Exports. Alameda co-owner Keytra Bafford said “The Sister City project joins Portland, OR and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in Malaysia. The collaboration between the two cities would raise awareness for wildlife conservation, support each city’s economy through international trade, and foster positive diplomatic relationships. Everyone involved is extremely excited and we hope to see this launch sometime this year.”

You may be wondering how new co-owner Keytra Bafford became involved in Alameda and her background. Keytra has spent her entire career working in the food industry, but had never owned a restaurant. In 2009 she was hired at Tempe, Arizona beer bar Boulders on Broadway, which is where she developed a passion for craft beer. In 2012 she moved to Chicago for a restaurant management position to further her career. There she furthered her knowledge of the craft beer industry and strengthened her interest in restaurant and brewery ownership.

Keytra’s father is an investor and businessman, and since the economy crashed in 2008 his habit of buying into businesses became a family affair. In 2014 her father retired and Keytra’s brother moved into the COO Position of HDB LLC, overseeing 30 companies. This brought on the possibility of buying into the craft beer industry with Alameda Brewing. Talks began in 2013 for Keytra Bafford to come on as a co-owner of Alameda, and the deal was finalized on July 31, 2014.

New ownership brings new funding and possibilities for the veteran brewpub as well as cans the discussion of more brewpub locations in the future.
