SpaghettiOs Catches Flak For Pearl Harbor Tweet

Uh oh, SpaghettiOs got in a bit of trouble this weekend after posting a Pearl Harbor tweet that was not appreciated.

On Friday night, the 72nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, SpaghettiOs tweeted out an image of its cartoon pasta mascot licking its lips and jauntily waving an American flag.

"Take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us," the SpaghettiOs account exhorted its followers.

But according to The Huffington Post, the smiling mascot struck many Internet users as inappropriate, considering that 2,400 people died at Pearl Harbor.

"Hope nobody minds if I chose to remember Pearl Harbor and forever forget @SpaghettiOs. #TastelessCorporation," one user opined.

"This tweet will live in infamy," another snarked.

"I think @SpaghettiOs is gonna have an opening for a new social media manager in a few hours," a third remarked.

After about 12 hours, during which Internet users amused themselves and protested the original tweet by Photoshopping the flag-waving SpaghettiOs mascot onto pictures of Pearl Harbor and other tragedies, the original SpaghettiOs tweet was deleted and the company made an apology.

"We apologize for our recent tweet in remembrance of Pearl Harbor Day," the company said. "We meant to pay respect, not to offend."
