The 2014 Guinness World Records is loaded with oddities, and has a rather morbid history. In 1951 Sir Hugh Beaver, chairman of the Guinness Brewery, was out hunting game birds by the River Slaney in County Wexford, Ireland, when he missed a shot at a golden plover. He then wondered if the plover was the fastest game bird in Europe, but had no reference book to answer the question. Some years later in 1954, Beaver teamed up with Norris and Ross McWhirter, sports journalists who provided facts and figures to the newspapers of Fleet Street in London, to compile what was then known as the Guinness Book of Records. And the rest is history!

Since its inception, there have been thousands of "officially amazing" accomplishments, with a few good Halloween-themed ones to boot. Check out some of the cool things people have accomplished, like carving a ton of pumpkins in record time or making the largest butterscotch candy.
