6 Drinks To Soothe A Sore Throat (Slideshow)

Salt Water

While nobody enjoys gargling salt water, it's one of the best remedies for a sore throat. It's recommended to gargle 1 teaspoon of salt dissolved in an 8-ounce glass of warm water at least once every hour.

Honey Water

Mixing honey in warm water is one of the most effective ways to soothe a sore throat. All types of honey, particularly manuka, have antiviral and antibacterial properties as well as a soothing, anti-inflammatory effect on the throat.

Herbal Teas

Drinking herbal teas when you have a sore throat can help to soothe and hydrate. Soothing herbs include sage, thyme, rosemary, ginseng, licorice, elderflower, chamomile, Echinacea, horehound, slippery elm, and marshmallow root.

Lemon Juice

Sipping on lemon juice mixed with water can help soothe a sore throat as well as help clear congestion.

Tomato Juice with Milk

By itself, tomato juice can be too acidic on a sore throat, but adding milk dilutes it and can help relieve the pain.

Apple Cider

When suffering from a sore throat, drinking warm apple cider can help soothe it and clear congestion.
