5 Hot Fall Destinations On Sale

As it does each season, travel-booking website Hotwire has revealed the five best destinations to travel this fall with its Where to Go Now & How Guide, which features destinations for a range of budgets, from a European city to a California surf town.

Hotwire looked at locals trends like weather, cultural and entertainment options, and tourist traffic to determine the destinations, which are located in North America and Europe.

"Fall is a fantastic time to travel because it's a season when temperatures ease, crowds lessen, and many popular destinations go on sale. This time of year, it's not a question of getting a deal, so much as getting the best deal possible," said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. "So if folks are looking to stretch their travel dollars farther this year, I recommend squeezing in a trip to one of these destinations before the holiday rush brings prices and foot traffic back up."

Amsterdam: After summer's peak season, the crowds thin in October at the Van Gogh Museum and bars. This year, there is a steep 14 percent drop on airfare and hotels.

London: The Summer Olympics may be over, but now is a great time to visit London, as hotels are offering steep discounts on all the new rooms built for the 2012 Olympic Games. Rates on airfare and hotels are down 10 percent from last year.

Albuquerque, N.M.: The desert oasis is popular most times of year, but rates are down 8 percent from last year, making fall an ideal time to visit.

Quebec: Venture down historic Kings Road, which follows along the St. Lawrence River and connects Montreal and Quebec City, and enjoy the many restaurants and bars along the way. Prices are down 7 percent from the summer.

San Diego, Calif.: Enjoy summer for a bit longer at San Diego's beaches. Plus, San Diego Beer Week, which celebrates craft beers around the country from Nov. 2 to 11, and the San Diego Bay Food and Wine Festival Nov. 14 to 18, are two more reasons to travel to San Diego in the fall.
