What could possibly improve upon a grilled hot dog on a hot summer day? Well, only the toppings of course. From simple and classic to extra cheesy with bold flavors, there are plenty of ways to dress up your hot dogs. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite ways — and we’re sure you’ll agree.
Top your hot dog with all the classics: ketchup, mustard, relish, and diced onion. You can’t go wrong with this combination and it’s a classic crowd pleaser.
For a crunchy bite on top of your hot dogs, slather on some of that coleslaw. The tangy bite of vinegar in the dressing will add extra flavor and zing to any dog.
Before grilling, wrap each hot dog in bacon. This way, the two can cook together and all that bacon juice and flavor can be infused into the dog. Top with spicy mustard.
To add an extra level of flavor to your hot dog, top it with golden brown onions. You can grill them straight on the grill or in a sauté pan.
Chili and Cheese
Chunky beef chili smothered in cheese is another favorite. Just be sure to have extra napkins around!
One note to leave you with: whether you stick to the classics or indulge in some of more unorthodoxly amazing hot dog toppings, make sure to get sturdy hot dog buns to hold all the extra add-ons!
