Asparagus is the symbol of spring at farmers' markets across the country, and everyone's first instinct is usually just to stick to the simple stuff to see what the year's crop tastes like on its own — perhaps tossing it in a bit of olive oil and grilling it, or steaming it and drizzling some melted butter on top. But what about when it's time to get more creative? Well, here are a few ideas.

Try these Cauliflower Asparagus Semolina Cakes from Haniela, author of the blog Haniela's: From My Kitchen to Yours. They're a lovely springtime snack. (Photo courtesy of hanielas.com)

Looking to replace Chinese takeout with something healthier? Then cut out the MSG and try Isabelle Boucher's Beef and Asparagus Stir-Fry — easy to make and delicious. (Photo courtesy of flickr/Isabelle @ Crumb)

Don't throw out the woody ends of your asparagus stalks — instead, save them and make Abbey Wade's ingenious Cream of Asparagus Recipe from her blog Everyday Champagne.
