Citing reasons like new hotel and restaurant openings and world events, the booking website's "Look Back, Look Ahead" Insider Index contains a short list of what they believe will be the hottest travel destinations in 2013.

Just as in 2012, international travel is expected to remain popular. Some 20 percent of travelers said planned to travel internationally on their next trip, according to a 2012 Orbitz customer survey, and an ITB World Travel Trends Report for 2012/2013 expects U.S. outbound travel to increase by 3 percent.

"European travel will be especially attractive as the need to fill extra hotel rooms built for the Olympics in the U.K. and the recession in Southern Europe will drive many travel bargains for consumers," said Julia Mighall, destination expert for Europe and regional director of Orbitz Worldwide.

Cities that made the list include New Orleans, host city for Super Bowl XLVII, and Phoenix, which hosts a variety of food festivals throughout the year including its annual Ostrich Festival, Scottsdale Culinary Festival, and Peach Festival.

From trips bringing Southern hospitality and comfort food to fine fusion across the pond, don't forget to pack your appetite.
