Jonathan Benno was recently hailed by epicurious as one the world's top toques here and abroad for the past 15 years before he even opened his own restaurant. Can Lincoln live up to the hype?

 

2. Osteria Morini

Little Italy may have been taken over by Chinatown, but Italian food has left for better digs—the rest of Manhattan. Maialino, Eataly, Pulino's and the Neapolitan pizza craze— New York is just as obsessed with Italy as ever. Michael White's newest venture, a rustic osteria (named for his mentor Gianluigi Morini) has been billed as more accessible than Marea, this is still SoHo we're talking about.

 

3. The Dutch

"We're putting an American cafe inside what used to be the Cub Room and we're going to call it The Dutch," Andrew Carmellini explained on his site. Expect this darling of the New York food media to bring some of the buzz back to a space once named after for the VIP room of the New York's once-famous Stork Club. 

Boston: Island Creek Oyster Bar

 

Duxbury's Island Creek Oyster Company and Eastern Standard owner Garrett Harker have teamed up to take over the former Great Bay Space in the Hotel Commonwealth. Jeremy Sewall of Lineage and Eastern Standard will be doing seafood-focused fare, and there will be a rotation of more than a dozen different kinds of oysters and a signature pilsner-style beer brewed by Will Shelton of Shelton Brothers.

Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia

 

 

DC:

 

1. Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar (image)

 

Chef Jason Kaufman heads the kitchen at the newest outpost of the energetic and lively Latin restaurant, Cuba Libre, serving small tasting plates that are the perfect size for sharing.

 

2. Michel

The masterful chef behind Citronelle, Michel Richard, is opening a more casual French-American bistro in The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner that will serve classic French dishes like coq au vin and beef bourguignon.

 

 

PHILADELPHIA:

1. Guapos Tacos

Jose Garces foray into the food truck world isn't a bashful one. The 20-year old truck is said to be covered with 40,000 bottle caps and will be serving up tacos with headcheese and tongue.

 

2. Frohman's Wursthaus

The beer garden trend, Garces-style. There are reports of artisanal beer, house-made sausages with international flavors, and a French fries with lots of toppings.

 

California: San Francisco and Los Angeles

 

San Francisco:

 

1. Una Pizza Napoletana

After closing his New York shop and moving west last summer, Anthony Mangieri opened his 32-seat pizzeria with the same four-pizza menu but with an exquisite new oven made in Naples.

 

2. Plum

Chef Daniel Patterson has decided to open a more casual – and affordable – version of his upscale restaurant Coi in Oakland (where he lives).

 

3. Cotogna

Expect house-made pastas, spit-roasted meats, fresh fish and an Italian-inspired cocktail program at Cotogna, opening in mid-October, from Quince owners, Michael and Lindsay Tusk. 

 

 

Los Angeles:

1. Lukshon

Korean-born chef, Sang Yoon, picks up on the upscale comfort food movement, eschewing burgers and beers to open a modern Southeast Asian restaurant in Culver City.

 

2. Esquela

Steven Arroyo is slated to open a small taqueria with a lobster tank on Stanley and Beverly near his sandwich shop, Potato Chips. Previews of the food included sandwiches with carne asada, chipotle aioli and herb-jalapeño guacamole on baguettes; and brined pork chop tacos.  There's also word of a daily special burrito.

Chicago: Grahamwich

 

Chicago:

The casual sandwich-soda-ice cream shop from Star Chef Graham Eliot Bowles is set to open in late October. Look for seasonal roasted butternut squash ice cream with marshmallow.
