These things add flavor to our salads. I agree with iceberg lettuce, and the croutons and bacon aren't that healthy, but I don't see why we'd need to leave veg off if we like the taste.
I'm glad to see that so many people thing this article is as stupid as I think it is. What the hell is the point? To me, a 'pointless' ingredient is dried parsley (which has no flavor) or unsalted butter on bread, because it also has no flavor and a ton of calories. Do you think we don't know that cheese, croutons & lo mein noodles have calories? Your suggestions put together the dumbest tasting salad in history.
Are you kidding me? If it tastes like crap we wont eat it, we will eat tasty bad stuff and then how nutritious will it be. Stop finding fault with everything people eat, it only annoys most people, who are at least trying to be good.
There's a big difference between "pointless" and "not as healthy as it could be". "Pointless" means there's no point in adding it to the salad . . . and "delicious" (croutons, by your own admission) is a great reason to add something to a salad.
What a pointless article.
I am more than annoyed with the bs on the internet that makes overuse of the mouse and is rife with ads and nonsense. I am only in agreement with the iceberg lettuce, that of which you'd almost do better eating sand.
Sometimes pointless is OK. Maybe cucumber just tastes better than zucchini. Not to mention they have completely different taste and texture.
I was at a dinner with a friend and his wife who is a dietician. She ordered a hot fudge sundae. It arrived, a tower of ice cream with cream and fudge piled on top. When she saw the cherry on top, she lost it. "This is nothing! Why even put it on here. IT'S JUST EMPTY CALORIES!"
No wonder so many have a hard time with dieting. We are told to eat more vegetables then told, "Oh no, those onions or cucumbers are just so pointless!"
Not everything you eat has to be chock full of nutrition.
It's good to have a lean protein like chicken in your salad, but getting breaded and fried chicken pieces may undo all that work you did on the treadmill. Choose grilled (skinless) chicken breast instead and you will shave off about 20 grams of fat and 100 calories.

This was a worthless (without worth) article.
