Who Takes The Cake? 10 Insanely Expensive Cakes Slideshow

To show his love for Africa, a Tokyo-based jeweler molded this dark chocolate cake in the shape of Africa and then to show his love even more, he scattered 2,000 diamonds around it. Price tag? $5 million. 

 

A Pirate’s Dream

This one was a "Pirate's Fantasy" — in fact, that was its name. The cake was designed and made by chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe, group skills development chef for Aitken Spence Hotels and Heritance Hotels & Resorts. Each of the cake's 10 layers was a different flavor, including cinnamon, zucchini, pumpkin, coconut meringue, and pistachio. It was made to look like a pirate's ship and is adorned rare sapphires and other gems as well as necklaces, rings, and bracelets. Price tag? $35 million. 

Bling for Bling

British diamond merchant Carl Weininger was presented with a cake from the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Cumbria that was created to appear like a Faberge egg, an already expensive item! The chocolate cake was filled with peach, orange, and whiskey and layered with champagne jelly and a light biscuit. Oh yeah, and it was topped with gold leaf and a 2-carat diamond. Price tag? $35,000. 

Kim Went Big

The wedding of reality star Kim Kardashian to NBA athlete Kris Humphries cost quite a pretty penny, it's just unfortunate their marriage only lasted 72 days. The wedding which rang a price tag of a cool $10 million, didn't disappoint went it came to their cake. The six foot tall black and white tiered cake made by Los Angeles baker Hansen Cakes was reportedly modeled after the royal wedding cake. Price Tag? $20,000

Lavish Chocolate

This modern cake is definitely one of the most expensive we've seen. The 14-inch-high cake was displayed in a department store in Osaka, Japan, back in 2006. It was decorated with 50 carats of diamonds. Price tag? 1 billion Yen ($11,261,300).

 

A Royal Cake

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was certainly a costly one. Their eight-tier wedding cake was covered in cream and white icing, decorated with approximately 900 delicate sugar-paste flowers, and took more than five weeks to make. Price tag? $78,000

Side note: A slice of the Duke and Duchess' wedding cake went up for auction on their first anniversary and sold for $1,375.

Fit for a King

The $1,000 Sultan's Golden Cake is one lavish experience. Served at the Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul, the cake is topped with caramelized black truffles and coated in 24-karat gold leaf. The dessert contains figs, quince, apricot, and pears that have been soaked in Jamaican rum for two years. The cake takes 72 hours to assemble, so enjoy every bite if you should ever be so lucky. Price tag? $1,000

 

Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend

Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro paired up with New York City socialite Devorah Rose to create one special confection. In honor of her event, "Devorah's Diamond Gala," she and Valastro dreamed up an extravagant cake that was garnished with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds — all set in gorgeous jewelry pieces. Price tag? $30 million.

Vintage Eats

A slice of cake from the 1937 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor sold at an auction in 1998 at Sotheby's. Sadly, it didn't come with a golden spoon. Price tag? $30,000.

Japanese Chef Nobue Ikara's multi-tiered cake was draped in platinum necklaces draped in platinum chains, necklaces, pins, pendants and edible foils. The cake was dedicated to Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi, leading model Chie Kumasawa as well other women in the arts. It was created as a promotional tool to entice women to buy more platinum jewelry back in 2007. Price Tag? $130,000.
