Getting the required amount of vitamin D is essential for our bodies to function properly. Vitamin D helps our bodies to metabolize certain minerals and can also help regulate the immune system. It is also essential in the absorption of calcium, which is needed for bone development and cell growth. A deficiency in vitamin D can lead to several diseases such as weakened muscles and bones and improper development and function of bones.

Vitamin D is naturally found in many fatty fish, dairy products, and certain vegetables.  It can also be found in many fortified products that are available at any grocery store. If you are unable to eat vitamin D rich foods, there are supplements available such as cod liver oil pills. But check out this list of foods high in vitamin D and try to incorporate them into your diet. Some of the items on the list will surprise you and are probably already a part of your diet.
